For those of you unaware of what FRA stands for (I had to do some research into it). FRA stands for Free Route Airspace. Following on from successful trials in Prestwick earlier this year, NATS are adding FRA to several regions of UK airspace.
This will mean that aircraft flying through the FRA will not have to fly particular routes, instead they can choose to fly any route through the FRA, only having to fly through an FRA entrance and exit point. This will change the concept of traditional flying, where aircraft have to file via specific airways which can add miles to their route.
The first of these regions is going to include scotland and northern island and the second will include the south west portion of the FIR.
